We started making goats’ milk soap in 2022, inspired by our own family’s experiences with everyday skincare products. We wanted to create something different: traditional handmade soap made with goats’ milk from our smallholding in Cambridgeshire, using a thoughtful approach to ingredients and a focus on the finished bar.

Why We Take a Different Approach to Soap-Making

That isn’t the approach we wanted to take.

At Birchtree, we focus on the quality of the soap itself. We don’t try to pack our bars with fragrance oils simply to make them smell stronger. Instead, we take a considered approach to our ingredients and put the time into making and curing each batch properly.

Traditional soap-making takes patience. Once a bar has been made, it needs time to cure. During this period, excess water evaporates and the bar develops its finished qualities. Proper curing is an important part of producing a good-quality handmade soap.

We also believe that choosing soap should be a personal experience. Some people prefer a gentle, familiar scent, while others enjoy something fresh and botanical. That’s why we’ve developed five different varieties, each offering something a little different.

Why Goats’ Milk Soap?

At Birchtree, goats’ milk is central to our approach because it connects our products directly to our smallholding and the animals we care for. We enjoy being able to make our soap on the farm and take a hands-on approach to the process.
